Parent Access to Gradebook - Skyward
| |
One of the key goals of Mesquite ISD is to maintain effective communication between the home and school. In the summer of 2016, MISD launched Skyward software. This web-based application allows parents, guardians and students to view important student and school information from a browser on any Internet connection, anytime, anywhere. The parent portal fosters communication by giving parents or guardians easy online access to information about students and the schools they attend.
The pilot program will display student assignments and test grades entered in Skyward for progress-report grades, period grades, and attendance. More features may be added in the future as school staff members and families become familiar with the Skyward program. Parents and guardians will initially receive account authentication and access information from campus personnel. Once the initial authentication process is completed, the parent/guardian will receive a user-ID and password. Anytime Skyward is accessed, the user-ID and password will be used for ongoing authentication. If the user-ID or password is lost, the parent/ guardian can obtain new one(s) by visiting the campus.
We get many questions throughout the year about attendance issues. To help answer those questions, we’d like to offer this Attendance Help Sheet so that parents/guardians have the information needed to make the best decisions possible for their child and themselves. In the event that your child needs to be out, please refer to the following information regarding attendance:
All student absences are categorized as either excused or unexcused according to the guidelines found in the MISD Student Code of Conduct. The following exceptions can be made to have a student’s absence considered excused:
A) Parent phone call/message/note turned into the teacher/office containing 1 of the following descriptions:
B) Student is sent home by the school nurse due to illness.
(This can occur prior to school after the 7:45 bell or at any point in the school day.)
C) Students will be allowed three (3) excused absences per year with a parent phone call or written note informing the school of the absence.
Loss of Credit
When a student has 18 or more of ANY absences (excused or unexcused) within the current school year, the student will lose credit for the enrolled grade level and could be retained. The campus Attendance Committee will evaluate every circumstance before making their final decision on placement.
Failure to Attend School
Parents Contributing to Truancy If the student has the following:
Official MISD attendance letters have been mailed to the student’s home address to communicate any concerns regarding the child’s attendance with parents/guardians.
Please feel free to Keri Johnson, Assistant Principal / Attendance Officer if you have questions or concerns regarding your student’s attendance at Smith Elementary, 972-882-7080.
